Growth over time
Yearly breakdown
Balances are estimated at the end of each year.

How this estimate works
The calculator grows your starting balance using the annual rate and selected compounding frequency. It converts that growth into an equivalent monthly rate so each end-of-month contribution receives the appropriate amount of time in the market.
“Total contributions” includes both your initial investment and every monthly deposit. “Interest earned” is the projected balance minus those contributions; it can be negative when you enter a negative return.
Planning note: Investment returns are not guaranteed. This estimate is for illustration and planning only. It does not include taxes, fees, inflation, contribution limits, or changes in return, and is not financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
What is compound interest?
Compound interest means growth is calculated on both the money you contributed and the growth already credited to the account. Over long periods, that compounding can make time a major part of the result.
When are monthly contributions added?
This calculator assumes each monthly contribution is made at the end of the month. Depositing at the beginning of each month would produce a slightly higher estimate.
How does compounding frequency affect the result?
At the same stated annual rate, more frequent compounding generally produces a slightly higher effective annual return. The calculator supports annual, semi-annual, quarterly, monthly, and daily compounding.
Does switching CAD and USD convert the amount?
No. The country toggle changes the currency label and formatting only; it does not apply an exchange rate. This lets you model the same numeric scenario in either currency without implying a live conversion rate.
Does the result include taxes, fees, or inflation?
No. Taxes, investment fees, inflation, and account-specific contribution rules are not included. Those can materially change real-world outcomes.
What return should I enter?
There is no single correct assumption and future returns are uncertain. Consider testing several rates, including a lower-return scenario, rather than treating one projection as a promise.
