A projection, not a promise

The calculator compounds your current balance and each monthly contribution at the return you enter. It then compares the ending balance with the money you contributed, so the growth estimate is easy to see.

The monthly income estimate applies a 4% annual withdrawal to the projected nest egg and divides it by 12. The “4% rule” is a planning convention, not a guarantee or a personalized recommendation. A sustainable rate can be higher or lower depending on market returns, fees, inflation, taxes, retirement length and your portfolio.

Monthly depositsContributions are assumed to arrive at the end of each month.
No inflation adjustmentResults are future nominal dollars, not today’s purchasing power.
Constant returnReal markets fluctuate; the entered return is smoothed for illustration.

Canada benefit estimates

The Canadian fields start at published maximum amounts to provide a transparent ceiling, not a prediction of what you will receive. CPP depends on contribution history and the age you start it. OAS depends on age, years of Canadian residence and income, and may be subject to recovery tax. Enter your personal estimates whenever you have them. OAS generally starts no earlier than age 65.

Government sources used for the starting values

Benefit values are a dated snapshot and are editable because your actual entitlement may differ substantially. The combined monthly figure does not estimate income tax, benefit clawbacks, inflation, investment fees or the timing differences between retirement and benefit eligibility.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the assumptions that have the largest effect on the estimate.

Does the projected balance account for inflation?

No. Results are shown in future nominal dollars. To make a rough purchasing-power adjustment, you can enter a return reduced by your expected inflation rate—for example, a 6% nominal return minus 2% inflation would be a 4% real-return assumption.

Is the 4% withdrawal guaranteed to last?

No. It is an illustration, not a guarantee or financial advice. The result depends on market sequence, fees, taxes, portfolio mix, inflation, retirement length and spending changes. Review a withdrawal plan regularly with a qualified professional.

Will I receive the maximum CPP and OAS amounts?

Not necessarily. The default values are published maximums, included as transparent reference points. CPP depends on your contribution record and start age. OAS depends on residence history, age and income. Replace both fields with your personal estimates from Service Canada.

Why is Social Security editable?

US Social Security benefits vary with lifetime earnings and claiming age. The starting value is the SSA’s estimated average retired-worker benefit for January 2026, but your own Social Security statement is the better input.

Are taxes and investment fees included?

No. Contributions, growth and withdrawals may be taxed differently depending on the account and jurisdiction. Investment fees also reduce returns. If you want to reflect fees, lower the annual return assumption by your estimated fee percentage.
